On the Town

The first shot is of the Blue Sky Hotel that I have referenced earlier.  It sits opposite S. Square where both the Communist Revolution started in 1921 and the Democratic Revolution started in 1989 (with a hunger strike).  This country is called the Land of Blue Sky and rightly so (sorry Montana) since there is constant sun and almost always cloudless blue skies.  The Sky Lounge is near the top on the 24th floor.

The second photo is of the fellow who bicycled from Holland to Mongolia, Rik Enebish, and his wife, Tseren. whom he met after arriving in this country.  I was having tea at the Café Amsterdam which they own and in they walked.  I had my camera so I got this shot of them with a friend.  Then I spent an hour with them as we talked about many topics.  His wife said it took him two years to make the bike trip as he spent considerable time in Pakistan and China before arriving in Mongolia.  Rik made this trip over the years 1991 and 1992 and told me had a tent with him no need for petrol so the trip was very inexpensive.  Of course I do not think he had many creature comforts along the way.

His wife showed me her Facebook account which has over 10,000 friends and she and her husband run an adventure tour business called "Tseren Tours" (what else could we expect).  Rik and she mentioned how much censorship there is in China (for example Facebook is forbidden there as are all other social media sites). 

In the background you can see one of their two younger boys. And so it goes...
