Evening Out

It is Saturday night and I walked over to the Blue Sky Hotel and had dinner at the Signature Room atop the Hotel (24th floor) overlooking the city.  This dining spot is the number one French restaurant in Mongolia and the meal lived up to its reputation.  Above is a pic of me starting with a soup entrĂ©e.

The other pic was taken just outside of Sukhbaatar Square all lit up to show off the pride of Mongolia.  It was here that the said Mr. S started the communist revolution of 1921 at which time it commenced an affiliation with the Soviets, ultimately becoming its second Soviet state.  It was here also that the second revolution occurred in 1990 when the country became a democracy with a Constitution that guaranteed a multi-party system as well as a bill of human rights.  In the center of bldg. which houses the parliament sits the statue of Ghengis Kahn who conquered much of the known world including China, Korea, Russia, Hungary and India.  He set about doing two revolutionary but wise deeds.  He institutionalized religious freedom and then topped that by exempting religious priests and more importantly all lawyers from payment of taxes.  What a great accomplishment!

But I digress.  After dinner I walked to the River Sounds Bar to hear the Sinatra concert.  Unfortunately, I was turned away because attendance was restricted to those receiving a private invitation, something not explained when my reservation was made.

My work this weekend consists of reviewing and correcting the latest redraft of the Assessment of Media Development which we are writing for the later National Media Conference.  Also, today I was hoping to do a hike over one of the lower mountains with some of those connected to the office but the weather intervened as the temp dropped to 27F with light snow.  Maybe next weekend?  And so it goes...

  1. Hi Dad,

It sounds like you are settled and busy with your important work. Too bad you got bounced from the Sinatra cover singer. I am happy to hear you are closer to the office and can walk there. Make sure to stay away from the manhole covers. That sounds like a trip-ending injury- falling through one of those things. We are back in Macon and settling ourselves for the return to our lives here.

    Love, Ellen and Craig

    1. Good to hear from all of you down Georgia way. So sorry about your family missing out on Yosemite N. Park and the Grand Canyon because the govt. was shut down on the day you arrived. Much thanks to Ellen for setting up my blog which allows me to do these daily postings. Tell Grace and Ju-Ju that I always start my walk to the office (about 1/2 a click) by taking ten steps backwards oer my special arrangement with them. Love to all from Poppy.
